The Chair of International Urbanism is pleased to announce the start of a new research project “Making global goals locally concrete! A learning network between Windhoek, Namibia, and Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg, for integrated settlement planning and clean energy - GO GLOCAL” funded by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Science, Research and the Arts (MWK).
Project description
The joint project GO GLOCAL aims to establish a community of practice in an international framework, a unique learning network between Windhoek, Namibia, and Stuttgart, Baden-Württemberg. It seeks to identify ways of adapting climate-relevant Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to the needs of the local level, while ensuring that civil society is heard on an equal footing. Co-productive approaches to SDG monitoring at local level will be tested combining both qualitative and quantitative data. Moreover, a new generation of practitioners will be trained in applying integrated and co-productive planning approaches through innovative learning and teaching formats.
ASA
From April to September 2021, the project collaborates with the ASA University Global Program and enables four students to participate in the international research project.
Project duration: 01/07/2021 – 31/10/2022
Project Partners
The project will be jointly implemented with the Institute of Energy Economics and Rational Energy Use (IER) at the University of Stuttgart; the Department of Architecture and Spatial Planning at the Namibia University of Science and Technology (NUST) as well as the Namibia Energy Institute (NEI) at NUST.
Further partners include the City of Stuttgart, Department for External Relations; the City of Windhoek; Engagement Global GmbH, Baden-Württemberg Branch; Shack Dwellers Federation of Namibia (SDFN); and Namibia Housing Action Group (NHAG).
