The historian Volker Weiß presented the first comprehensive analysis of the New Right in his 2017 book Die Autoritäre Revolte (The Authoritarian Revolt). His latest highly acclaimed book, Das Deutsche Demokratische Reich (The German Democratic Reich), shifts focus to explore the historical and political strategies of anti-democratic forces. "Shifts, reinterpretations, and shattered images are the tools used to conduct the historical discourse as a demolition project," he observes. The book quickly climbed to number one on Deutschlandfunk Kultur's nonfiction bestseller list following its release and provides a deep look into the internal contradictions of the New Right as it tries to position itself within a changing geopolitical landscape.
Volker Weiß is a historian and freelance writer, specializing in the history of the far right in Germany, as well as 19th and 20th-century German history.
