What would the world look like if we listened to science? Those who dig deep enough will uncover future possibilities. Science not only warns us but also offers solutions and entirely new ideas—perhaps even those that truly work. Ideas that enrich the world’s biodiversity, make water more drinkable, and grant humanity greater freedom (including freedom from viruses). We just need to listen! Where we do, lead disappears from walls, CFCs vanish from the atmosphere, cholera is eliminated from water, and polio is eradicated from the world.

Simon McGowan is a bioprocess engineer, 2015 European Science Slam champion, and contributor to the anthology "Science is Essential for Saving the World," with an article on bioplastics. His goal is to reduce or even significantly limit the use of plastic packaging, advocating instead for biodegradable bioplastics.
