I eat what I enjoy, and I travel wherever I please—when necessary, by plane. After all, I’ve earned it. Yet this freedom is increasingly under pressure: for a long time, we have been exceeding the planet’s limits because a minority of people simply claims their freedom. Does this freedom have a future? What kind of freedom do we desire for the year 2049? On this engaging evening, we seek the audience's opinions. The Future Reporters will pose questions, and everyone is invited to take a stand. Will anyone be persuaded to change sides?

This event marks the conclusion of the project “Future Freedoms: Reportages from the Post-Carbon Society of 2049”as part of the BMBF Science Year 2024—Freedom. Led by the IZKT, the project has involved Merz Akademie—University of Design, Art, and Media, as well as the Ludwigsburg University of Education, since April 2024. Throughout the past semester, students from the University of Stuttgart collaborated with peers from these two institutions in a co-creative exchange with citizens and scholars. Based on this dialogue, speculative documentary films were produced about four everyday practices (Flying, Driving, Building, Eating), which were presented in various formats for discussion. The results of this work will culminate in the House of Commons Debate at the project’s conclusion.

The event will be held in the German language.
